Scrotal & Testicular Pain

What are Scrotal & Testicular Pain

Scrotal ultrasound with Doppler is the gold-standard imaging method for evaluating testicular pain, swelling, or lumps. It provides detailed views of the testicles, epididymis, spermatic cord, and surrounding tissues while assessing blood flow, which is essential for diagnosing urgent conditions.

Ultrasound can detect testicular cancer, often seen as a solid irregular mass within the testicle, allowing early referral and treatment. It also identifies varicoceles, enlarged varicose veins around the testicle that may cause discomfort or reduced fertility. Hydroceles, which present as fluid surrounding the testicle, are easily visualised and assessed for size and cause.

One of the most important emergencies—testicular torsion—occurs when the spermatic cord twists, reducing or stopping blood supply. Though sometimes challenging to confirm, Doppler ultrasound is vital for assessing blood flow and supporting fast surgical decisions.

Ultrasound also evaluates infections, trauma, and various fertility issues, making it an essential tool for both routine and urgent scrotal assessments.
